FEATURED INTERVIEW WITH AYNUR PEKTAS (Designer)

1.How does this collection speak to you? How did it come about? What did you want this to say to your audience

My new collection describes the modesty of the black nights. Usually I only deal with the color white in my designs but black is my extreme. For this collection my my goal was to push so far away from my conventional work. Combining how I felt at the moment mixed with my white design sensibilities it melted into my sexy strange black nights.

2. What do you find to be the most difficult when bringing a team of artists together to create a cohesive look? How do you pick the right team
The most important thing is to realize the vision you have. Every artist has to interpret and implement your vision into reality. That means that you must choose professionals which can understand and life your vision.

3.As an editorial artist, what do you feel is one of the biggest mistakes beginners tend to make?

To work without any concept and to be unorganized and to choose unprofessional teams.

4. How would you describe your artistic style
Modest
Sexy
Timeless
Seasonless
Pure

5.Do you prefer to be behind the camera or in front of it?
Behind the camera you can see more.

6.What is your greatest weakness; your greatest strength?
I'm a perfectionist it a weakness and a strength

7. What misconceptions do you think outsiders have about fashion and beauty editorials?

Some of the Outsiders don’t see the story behind the images. They don’t see the kind of art, the vision.

8. What is your secret to keeping a happy balanced life while following your passion?

To make my work with heart, everything else follows.

9. Music feeds the soul and often motivates. What music are you playing while you are shooting?
Music which gives positive energy on set so anything that gives me that dancing feeling!

10. Words to live by?

Work hard for your visions and don`t wait for it to happen go for it!

FEATURED WARDROBE STYLIST INTERVIEW

1. How does this collection speak to you? How did it come about? What did you want this to say to your audience?

This collection talks about the effortless sensuality. We decided to superimpose some clothes and leave unbuttoned some other ones to get it. We want to say to our audience that beauty doesn’t necessarily means to always go perfectly dressed; it’s just about exploiting your natural sensuality.

2. What do you find to be the most difficult when bringing a team of artists together to create a cohesive look? How do you pick the right team?

The most difficult part is that the whole team has in mind the same interpretation of the initial concept. That’s why, to pick the right team, it’s really important to find people that share your same vision of fashion.

3. As an editorial artist, what do you feel is one of the biggest mistakes beginners tend to make?

I think that one of the biggest mistakes that beginners tend to make is disguising the models instead of making fashion.

4. How would you describe your artistic style?

My artistic style goes from classic with modern touches to the latest trends harmoniously combined. I like to use neutral tones with some splashes of color. Anyway, the most important thing to me is to never lose elegance.

5. How do you go about picking the right pieces for the editorial?

To pick the right pieces I previously talk with the whole team to decide the concept of the editorial, and from that I try to choose clothes that follow a single line in style and color.

6. What is your greatest weakness; your greatest strength?

My greatest weakness at present is the mini length in tube skirts and dresses, and my greatest strength is the combination of colors and volumes.

7. What misconceptions do you think outsiders have about fashion / beauty editorials and the business of styling?

I think that outsiders have a lot of misconceptions, but the one that most annoys me is the idea that fashion and styling world is a superficial and empty world. In my opinion, every fashion editorial expresses one concept and causes one feeling into the viewer, and that depends of the model acting, the hair and makeup chosen, the clothes worn and the way of the photographer captures everything. It’s actually a way of art and another way to express feelings and thoughts.

8. What is your secret to keeping a happy balanced life while following your passion?

To keep it I always try to not obsess about the job, and to not being all the day talking about it. It really helps having friends totally outside of the fashion world.

9. Music feeds the soul and often motivates. What music are you playing while you are shooting?

The music that we listen while we’re shooting depends on the acting that we ask to the model; we search the closest one to the style that we’re doing.

10. Words to live by?

Passion, dreams and love.

FEATURED PHOTOGRAPHER INTERVIEW

1. How does this collection speak to you? How did it come about? What did you want this to say to your
audience?
The story is about a young girl who has an "Alice in wonderland" spirit. She felt down to a complete different
world. The beauty side of Almodovar's movies was what attracted us for the collection and we chose to illustrate it by putting it into a complete opposite decor. However, this incoherence vibe is far from being as dramatic as Almodovar's movies. It is more a poetic search.

2. What do you find to be the most difficult when bringing a team of artists together to create a cohesive
look? How do you pick the right team?
The most difficult is to find the right people to get the perfect team. You want team members who are as excited as you about the project. It is amazing when stylist, hairstylist, make up artist are in cohesion and agree with the style and ambience of the shoot. Mainly, the projects will happen when a team comes together. For instance, this editorial was directed by the stylist and myself. I like common project a lot because you can always learn working as a team.

3. As an editorial artist, what do you feel is one of the biggest mistakes beginners tend to make?
When you start, you tend not to have the right team with you. The risk is that the result and the pictures will not look as you have had expected. Create a universe for a photo-shoot requires making choices, define a lexical scope. You do have to go threw different shoots to experiment and get the best team after different experiences. It is important that within the team, everybody builds the shoot. Also, it is good to keep in mind the
way that you want the photos to look. It is like advices, take it, listen to it, don't always apply it.

4. How would you describe your artistic style?
I am mostly inspired by simple, pure, graphic and strong pictures.
When I shoot, I like to enhance the femininity and the beauty of each model I work with.

5. Do you prefer to be behind the camera or in front of it?
I prefer to be behind the camera. I love creating stories, or just to take some key moments that I want to
remember.

6. What is your greatest weakness; your greatest strength?
Tricky question, I guess they change overtime when you grow up but I'm always trying to work on my weaknesses to make them strengths.

7. What misconceptions do you think outsiders have about fashion and beauty editorials?
Maybe that fashion is superficial. From my point of view, fashion is beauty, art, colour, sculpture, creation, material, concept and most of it all, an excuse for creating stories, sets and editorials.

8. What is your secret to keeping a happy balanced life while following your passion?
To stay positive, believe in myself, work hard, and be surrounded by the best team and people I have ever met. Try everything without forgetting its ethics. My job is not easy every day, but I am really happy about what I
do, and I feel very lucky about it.

9. Music feeds the soul and often motivates. What music are you playing while you are shooting?
Chicago, Sufjan Stevens

10. Words to live by?
Be careful what you wish for, it just might come true.

FEATURED PHOTOGRAPHER INTERVIEW

1.    How does this collection speak to you? How did it come about? What did you want this to say to your audience?

The styling reminds me a lot of the 70‘s somehow. That is why I was inspired by the great Mr. Avedon and his work from those days while shooting the story.

2. What do you find to be the most difficult when bringing a team of artists together to create a cohesive look? How do you pick the right team?

Sometimes it just happens that it all falls into place. If I go look for the right people I try to combine people with the right style or strengths but also with the right personality to fit the rest of the team. It only works in a good team atmosphere.

3.    As an editorial artist, what do you feel is one of the biggest mistakes beginners tend to make?

When young artists start working together everybody wants to show what they can do. Often it turns out to be too much of everything in the end. You need to be able to leave things out which is harder than to add.

4.    How would you describe your artistic style?

It is always hard to talk about your own ,style‘ but if I would have to say something I think it is often bold and a bit ‘larger than life‘.

5.    Do you prefer to be behind the camera or in front of it?

For sure behind although I have been in front of it as well every now and then for TV interviews and TV shows and it is always an interesting experience.

6.    What is your greatest weakness; your greatest strength?

I guess one thing I often think of as a weakness is also a great strength. I always try to  get everything to perfection. You are running the risk of the picture getting a bit too perfect but if you get the right degree of perfecion with just a little bit of imperfection it turns out perfect in a good way (if that makes any sense to you.

7.    What misconceptions do you think outsiders have about fashion and beauty editorials?

That you just put a pretty girl with makeup in a pretty dress and you get a nice editorial. Unfortunately it is a lot of work to get there. And right after you are done, you find things you should have done differently or even better. At least I do

8.    What is your secret to keeping a happy balanced life while following your passion?

My 7 year old son is doing that quite well.

9.    Music feeds the soul and often motivates. What music are you playing while you are
shooting?

I always have music while I shoot. It is a wild mix from my playlists. I like a lot of different music which also means there is something for everybody in that list..

10.    Words to live by?

Always stay true to yourself.

FEATURED MAKEUP ARTIST INTERVIEW

1.What do you hope your contribution to the project says to the viewers? I hope my contribution to the project touches the viewers and opens their mind to creativity.

2.How has working with a team benefited you aside from strengthening your skills? Working with a team has benefited me tremendously by bringing our views and ideas together to achieve the perfect look.

3.What is some good advice for Makeup Artists striving to work in this industry? Never stop learning and bettering yourself, stay on top of your game it can only take you farther.

4.What do you find to be the most rewarding and difficult when working with a team of artists to meet a common look? The most rewarding thing for me, when working with a team would have to be having every ones ideas bring a project to life. I don't think there is anything difficult about working with a team... I have had the pleasure of working with all fabulous and creative people, which only made my job easier.

5.How do you plan for the unexpected? I usually go with the flow and sometimes it is the unexpected that turns a mediocre project into something epic.

6.What do you feel is a common mistake Makeup Artists make? A common mistake some makeup artists make is not continuing to better their skills, there is always something new to learn so you can excel.

7.What advanced classes have you taken that you feel has helped you the most? I have learned more from other artists and research than anywhere else...

8.What do you say to those who don’t feel education is important throughout their career? I would say that it is a big mistake, and one of the worst you can make... why stay where you are, when you can always be better? I learn something new everyday... I follow other artists, try new techniques and ideas and better my skill every chance I get.

9. How do you keep your style fresh? I am always trying out new techniques & experimenting with different colors and brands.

10.What would you say you have learned of most value through your experiences as a Makeup Artist? That there is beauty in everything & sometimes it's up to me to bring it out... so others can see it as well.

11.How would you describe your style? My style is ever changing.

12.How did you get your start in the editorial world? How hard or easy was it for you to build your career? I modeled myself for the majority of my life, then, realized I had a bigger passion for makeup and being on the other side of the camera. With the help of a great friend & hair stylist, Brittany Molina I had some of my first work as a makeup artist published in an international bridal book and my career as a makeup artist took off from there. So for me, it was probably easier than most, because I was already in the industry. I was surrounded by amazing talent who helped me from the beginning.

13.What has been the most amazing opportunity you have had in this industry so far? The most amazing opportunity I have had in the industry so far would have to be a Paul Mitchell ad I did. It was surreal walking in a store and seeing my work on hundreds of hair products.

14.What colors are you in love with right now? At the moment, I am in love with daring and edgy colors.

15.What inspires you? My two little girls inspire me. I always push myself to be better in everyday life & my career, so I can set a good example for them.

16.Next BIG goal? My next big goal is to get represented by one of the big Artist Agencies and become a Celebrity Makeup artist.
